Everyone knows what happened on Capitol Hill this week. What happened is not about politics; it’s not about religion; it’s about health care, women’s rights, and women’s freedom.
This is about women and families making private decisions. This is about women’s health being turned into a public policy issue when men’s health is a private affair. When a man visits HIS physician to request a prescription, no one looks over the doctor’s shoulder. When a woman sees her doctor, it’s a crowded room.
I worked tirelessly for the “Affordable Care Act” to improve access to health care. I worked with a coalition to make sure coverage for women’s health was included in the final bill. I thank groups like Planned Parenthood and other groups for their hard work for decades supporting women’s reproductive health. Help me make sure our hard work does not evaporate so quickly!
Erik Paulsen is wrong. He is wrong when he calls access to contraceptives a religious issue. He is wrong when he says there should be a moral objection to providing health care access for women.
When I am in the US House, I will work to de-politicize women’s lives. I will sponsor and co-sponsor bills to let women make decisions for themselves. I will fight any attempt to put women’s health back on the political table.
